Кувалда – Бетономешалка.
A Russian band, Sledgehammer. And their greatest hit: The Concrete Mixer.
The lyrics:
The concrete mixer…
Mixes the concrete
The workers
Are drinking moonshine!
Pure. Fuckin. Musical. Genius.
I love this country.

November 11, 2007Archeologyarcheologyarcheology. I’m busy learning archeology. Also, I nearly ended up with dreadlocks. I was sitting, reading a textbook and my hair was disturbing my learning process. So I, almost unintentionally, started weaving dreadlocks out of it. My hair’s too short and too clean to achieve real dreads, but sporadical bunches are possible. Now I have those. And it really helps when reading! Woohoo!
Yeah.
Listen to Ufomammut, they kick ass. youtube, youtube.
And Jesu. youtube.
The River
November 6, 2007I’m sorta busy studying archeology, but that doesn’t stop me from being totally hooked on the band Oxbow. Dadaist noise rock/metal, fronted by a bodybuilder with anger managment problems (usually dressed in his underwear)?? Fuck yeah!
Check out these two live videos:
The Geometry of Time
Down a Stair Backward
And an interview + live footage thing.
Today when I went out to the bathroom to have a shower, I discovered that there’s no cold water. I mean, how fucked up a place can get?? Usually there’s no hot water, but that’s sorta okay, you close your eyes, take a deep breath and shower with ice-cold water, groaning and mumbling “it’s healthy, it’s fuckin heeeeealthy!” to yourself.
But you can’t do this with boiling hot water…
it took the night
October 18, 2007I found the setlist of the PJ Harvey concert I’ve been to in Barcelona (on this amazing PJ fansite). Added some youtube links. This user has some good videos from Summercase festival.

Life in the D
October 9, 2007Brendan Benson – Life in the D
Yeah, nice song. But I wanna sing (okay, blog) about life in a different “D”. Dormitory. Yeys!
Okay this was pretty lame.
They switched on the heating last night. I woke up around 3 am and spent half an hour listening to the great ambient noises of water flowing through the pipes. I have lots of ambience around me, mostly because the single windows don’t close tightly enough (luckily that doesn’t effect the room temperature). Also, the building has all kinds of old lamps and pipes, which generate strange sounds.
Most people who live here are annoyed, but frankly, I enjoy it. I mean, I spend a fair amount of time listening to and composing noise/ambient music. Yeah, you can’t switch off noise pollution, but then if you can’t do anything to stop it, why not enjoy it?
(Yesterday, after leaving the university, I stood still for a while and listened to the drone of a thousand cars in a traffic jam. I know, it’s a bit ridiculous. But hey, I enjoy Sunn O))) , Nurse With Wound or Otomo Yoshihide [<- love this video] as well…
And the old -and probably mentally ill- guy in the metro who sits with a violin but plays so bad, you can’t even tell whether he’s playing or shouting. Probably I’m the only one who gives him money… I spend money on avant-garde records, so giving some change to the poor guy who makes noise in the metro is the fair thing to do)
See? I wanted to write about how I live and ended up ranting about music (:
Okay, that’s it for today.
My baby’s got the blües
October 7, 20071. You should check out Electric Worry by Clutch. Here’s a youtube link. Nice blues-rock whatever. With harmonica and stuff. It’s a cover of an old blues song, if I’m not mistaken. Clutch is a good band, btw. Their previous stuff (this song is from 2007) is more stonery. Groovy.
2. My drone-noise project has been finally named:
THE BLOATED POPE
Whore of Babylon was taken by some shitty band from Texas. This one’s a song on the Melvins & Lustmord album, Pigs of the Roman Empire. I already have 5 very good songs, some more droney, some more noisey. I’m quite satisfied with the outcome.
Also, the mighty Bzzzzz!’s next album is slowly acquiring it’s final shape. It’s not the full Zotra concept album I mentioned earlier (that became a Zotra EP, I’ll upload it soon), but another Zotra concept album… (: It will introduce new heroes of the Zotra-verse, etc etc.

October 4, 2007Another video for ya lot:
PJ Harvey performing Wang Dang Doodle, back in ‘93…
Yeah, second post in the new blogging session and I’m already down to the usual “PJ kicks ass, watch this, this and this” style. Whateevvvah.
Funny, because interesting blog-worthy things happen to me all the time. Like the guy on the metro who had the best trousers ever. Yeah. Then he threw up, ruining the best trousers ever. They were white, with all kinds of black and red stamps and letters on ‘em. *sigh*

And blogging resumes! All hail the omnipresent omnipotent, the ultimate timewaster: internet! Yes, I finally got internet in my room, the speed is decent, not for mass downloads, but that’ll make it harder to get sucked into the depths of the hyperspace.
So, it’s a whole new life for me. University. Stuff like that. I quite like it so far. Interesting lectures, nice people (funny thing: 3 students from the total 30 are boys! Yey! Yeah, history of arts, aren’t you the most masculine job ever), overall goodness. Less paperwork would be an improvement, but you just can’t avoid that.
Well, theoretically, you can avoid it, but it will lead to baaaad things (you know, no monthly metro ticket or getting kicked out of the country).
Okay, to improve the entertainment value of this entry, here’s a little song from John Zorn’s Invitation to a Suicide soundtrack, Bugsy’s Jazztet:
Woohoo, music talk time! Our main focus: PJ Harvey’s new album,
WHITE CHALK

It’s mainly all piano songs, very minimalistic and amazingly beautiful. Differs from her previous works. Here’s a lil’ youtube link: PJ Harvey – The Devil. The album version has some drums in it, but PJ and the piano dominate.
And while you’re there, check out PJ Harvey performing Down by the Water solo, on autoharp.
That’s it.
Fingertips
June 17, 2007Time for another Top 5 list!
Top 5 simple pleasures!
This is a list for all those simply yet awesome songs! Avant-garde guitar solos and synths and stuff are good, but sometimes you need simplicity. My picks are….
1. The Brian Jonestown Massacre – Free and Easy Take 2
Three chords and a harmonica = cool song. It’s simple as that.
2. Art Brut – Emily Kane
Even less chords and stupidly cute lyrics. A fitting video.
3. The White Stripes – Fell in Love With a Girl
Talking about videos, this song has a cool one. Don’t even bother counting the chords used in the song, who cares?? It’s greaaaaaat! Tararararara-tararararara-tarararara-tarararara!
4. The Bastard Fairies – Whatever
Here’s the video, watch it, ’cause it’s hilarous. The Bastard Fairies are funny. And I love the way the singer says “’cause I know war is bad, but love is really… good”.
5. The Zutons – Don’t Ever Think (Too Much)
Duhh, video. Chanting and saxophone? Not thinking too much? Give it to me.
Feel free to post your own list!
