The Control Room

June 13, 2007

Mehh, i got stuck in the elevator today. (: Luckily enough, the elevator-repairing-guy came in twenty minutes.

*crowd cheers*

Yeah, that was my great adventure today.

I love Era Vulgaris’ lyrics, they are very Josh Homme. ‘The jury is in, verdict: Retarded’ (this one being from Turnin’ on the Screw)

Yeah!

i finished my Era Vulgaris review.

Go read and listen.

Return

June 9, 2007

I re-read some of the last posts and that reminded me of an old QOTSA forum fun: the Natasha vs Meg White – who has bigger boobs? It was an approximately 50 page topic with a poll and tons of reference pictures attached. As far as I can remember, Natasha won (but keep in mind, this was on the QOTSA forum – at the Little Room, Meg White would have won).

The new Stripes album, Icky Thump will be out soon (the leak’s been floating around for a few days now) . I’m slightly afraid of it. Yeah, I dig the title song (watch it on youtube, creepy video. And Meg is strange with this new hair. Not as cute as she used to be), but… I don’t know.

And yeah, Era Vulgaris has leaked too… I am so fuckin ashamed of myself. Yes, I admit, I downloaded it, couldn’t resist.

As a punishment, from now on I’ll refer to myself not as I but as i. A non-capital letter for a capital crime!!

i guess i’ll be able to handle this, cause

Era.
Vulgaris.
Kicks.
Ass.

and of course, I’ll buy the record anyways.

Once again, it’s a totally new QOTSA sound. It lacks Mark Lanegan (he only provided backing vocals for one of the best songs, River in the Road), but whatever. Dark, twisted, insane songs and very dancey!!
i totally have a mental image of a huge crowd boogeying (how do you spell it??) together to Suture up your Future. i’ll write a cute article, with track-by-track review and stuff. Greatness.

She’s my Man

Hehh, I still love the good old QOTSA forums. Chaotic beauty. An entry in the thread about the new bass player:

I miss Natasha’s boobs though, maybe Dean can get implants?

(Dean = new keyboard player, Natasha = old keyboard player. Talking about the new keyboard player in the bass player topic is absolutely okay there)
For those who are not trained QOTSA-ologists:

That’s Natasha.

And this is Dean.

Linky!

More QOTSA greatness: the new line-up in action. The new bass-player is indeed energetic (: And so is the music.

Sick awesomeness!!

new qotsa lineup

New QOTSA line-up, with all the new guys pushed to one side (Dean Fertita and Michael Shuman respectively)… Well, now it’s way too easy to connect QOTSA to the White Stripes: the new QOTSa keyboardist played with The Raconteurs on tour.
(if you don’t know this game: you take two bands and try to find the shortest chain of musicians between them. For example, White Stripes — Iggy Pop:
White Stripes – The Raconteurs – Brendan Benson – The Stooges (Brendan does backing vocals on the new Stooges record) – Iggy Pop)

Era Vulgaris time, everyone!

A few days ago a new song, 3’s & 7’s was streamable on the qotsa site for 24 hours, you missed it, but I’m sure it’s avaible for illegal download everywhere.

The new album seems to have lots of tempo and melody changes. Also, judging from the released B-side (it’s called Era Vulgaris, get it here. It’s the song that features Trent Reznor; he’s singing somewhere around the end), the various excrepts, it’ll be a slight return to the roots, to the original ‘robotic’ feel. Repetitive and heavy, fuck yeah!! And dark and electric, like a construction worker.

3’s & 7’s is even better then Era Vulgaris. A short part of it was already in a promo video, it’s the song which starts similarly to Smells Like Teen Spirit but gets all qotsa-esque afterwards. And it’s great.

Aaaand yesterday a new song (the first single-to-be) was leaked: Sick Sick Sick.

Also, today a short video appeared on qotsa.com, with fucked-up lightbulbs and a decent long part from Sick Sick Sick.

I’m biased, of course, as we are talking about the Queens of the fuckin Stone Age here, but these songs rock. Era Vulgaris wasn’t overly great – a nice tune, but SSS and 3’s & 7’s… So sweeeeeeet!!!
And as it must be, the sound differs from all the previous albums!!!!!!!

GO QOTSA GO!!

Can’t wait for the 12th of June…
