Klezmer metal

March 11, 2008

Wow, I ended up with a very strange chart for last week (according to my last.fm profile):

So basically it’s Zorn-released avant-klezmer on top, followed by French black metal, Dutch goregrind, my beloved Dead Raven Choir (black folk noise or some shit like that), more raw black metal, my own Eat Rust (I really dig my black metal songs, see previous post), classic black metal (Bathory’s s/t album is very good), dronish dark folk, PJ Harvey, and Shrum, psychedelic death metal with two bass guitarists (one being from Acid Bath).

And all this leads me to
KLEZMER METAL!!

The world lacks good klezmer metal. I mean, I’m not sure it’s needed… but damn it. I composed some under the moniker Bavarians of Bohemia. The song title is very original, I know… First I wanted to name it “Ancient Traditions: Cut it Off!!” but changed my mind.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, POLLY!!

Another video for ya lot:
PJ Harvey performing Wang Dang Doodle, back in ‘93…

Yeah, second post in the new blogging session and I’m already down to the usual “PJ kicks ass, watch this, this and this” style. Whateevvvah.

Funny, because interesting blog-worthy things happen to me all the time. Like the guy on the metro who had the best trousers ever. Yeah. Then he threw up, ruining the best trousers ever. They were white, with all kinds of black and red stamps and letters on ‘em. *sigh*

*drumroll*

And blogging resumes! All hail the omnipresent omnipotent, the ultimate timewaster: internet! Yes, I finally got internet in my room, the speed is decent, not for mass downloads, but that’ll make it harder to get sucked into the depths of the hyperspace.

So, it’s a whole new life for me. University. Stuff like that. I quite like it so far. Interesting lectures, nice people (funny thing: 3 students from the total 30 are boys! Yey! Yeah, history of arts, aren’t you the most masculine job ever), overall goodness. Less paperwork would be an improvement, but you just can’t avoid that.

Well, theoretically, you can avoid it, but it will lead to baaaad things (you know, no monthly metro ticket or getting kicked out of the country).

Okay, to improve the entertainment value of this entry, here’s a little song from John Zorn’s Invitation to a Suicide soundtrack, Bugsy’s Jazztet:

Woohoo, music talk time! Our main focus: PJ Harvey’s new album,
WHITE CHALK
I love you, PJ!

It’s mainly all piano songs, very minimalistic and amazingly beautiful. Differs from her previous works. Here’s a lil’ youtube link: PJ Harvey – The Devil. The album version has some drums in it, but PJ and the piano dominate.
And while you’re there, check out PJ Harvey performing Down by the Water solo, on autoharp.

That’s it.

That’s probably my longest title so far.

So, I was thinking about putting together a dream supergroup of all my favourite musicians, but I encountered some problems.

First, what music would they play? Yeah, probably some kind of rock… That’s not the main problem. You see, if you get five/six very talented and creative musicians together, they’ll just argue or something. Two can agree on something (see: The Raconteurs), but more than that, it’s just impossible.
Also, supergroups never really get into experimentating. They take parts of their original band(s) and put it together.

So, my dream supergroup would try to do something different.

But who’d be in it? Let’s see… Read the rest of this entry »

Did you know that PJ Harvey’s voice is better than mine? I know it’s hard, but please, believe me. Don’t make me prove it.

In other news: at last, I have school holidays, which is greaaaat!
